"J. Golden Kimball: The Story, Sayings and Sermons of a Unique Peronality" by Claude Richards

I am working on reading this week a book entitled "J. Golden Kimball: The Story, Sayings and Sermons of a Unique Personality" by Claude Richards. I am just getting started with the book, but a couple of interesting observations:

- Was the son of famed apostle Heber C. Kimball
- Was one of Heber C. Kimball's favorite sons, and was trained to be his personal secretary
- Was left fatherless at age 15, and became the financial breadwinner of his family
- Was inspired to pursue an education after hearing a speech by famed educator Karl G. Maeser
- Served in the Southern States Mission under Pres. B. H. Roberts where he contracted malaria
- During his missionary service two missionaries (John H. Gibbs & William S. Berry) were murdered in Cane Creek, Tennessee, and J. Golden Kimball volunteered for the dangerous assignment of helping to retrieve their bodies from hostile territory. J. Golden assisted Pres. B.H. Roberts (who returned to the site disguised as a farm laborer) with this most dangerous task. Ultimately, the bodies were recovered and safely returned to Utah.

Just a few interesting tid-bits from my reading so far...I will keep you all updated as I continue.
